BIG News Y'all!

Change is a comin'...
There is a reason for my lack of posts lately!  I am in the midst of a crazy whirlwind!  Let me explain...
My husband and I have had this recurring conversation about moving out of California.  We have both lived in SoCal our entire lives and just wanted a change, an adventure!  We have never had the guts to do it though b/c we had not found a place we felt could make up for leaving the great CA weather, oh, and then there's the beach!  Then we found Austin, TX...
My hubby travels to Austin frequently for business and often talks about how much he loves it there so three years ago my Mom and I went out for a weekend to see what all the hype was about and...I LOVED it!   I was hooked and didn't want to leave!  So, we continued to daydream and basically the "fear" of the unknown and leaving our great friends and family kept us here.
After our recent trip.....we both felt VERY strongly that Austin is where we needed to be.  Sooooo, we got home, sold our house and are currently packing everything we own in a U haul (including four goldfish).
I am beyond excited about our future and also fearful that I will have a total panic attack at any moment!!!
The best part is...well, one of the best parts....I get to actually design my OWN house!  Can't wait to blog about that process.

Wish me luck!   :-)

Two Shades of Grey

This is an oldie but goodie that I never did a complete post on.  I finished this room about 18 months ago and it has been featured here and here.  Enjoy!

Chic Master Bedroom

I wanted to create a relaxing master bedroom for this client with cool color tones and traditional/modern elements. It needed to be livable and functional for this family with young children. The room was a very bland tract-style bedroom, so I felt it was important to create a lot of interest on the main wall. Adding the white casing to frame the nightstands and the upholstered bed really add depth and dimension to a basic wall.

The master bedroom is almost always the last room clients have me help them with; I guess people feel like no one sees it so why bother?  However, it’s the last room you see when you go to bed and the first thing you see when you wake up . . . sounds important to me!

Wall Treatment Concept
In order to make everything line up and fit within the boxes I measured the width and height of each piece of furniture and accessory going within the frame. We used a 2 1/2" molding to create the boxed frames.  The original plan was to use a metallic paper inside the boxes but we ended up just using a darker grey paint.  I love the way it all turned out.

Mixing things up...

One of my favorite little girls room is in the process of changing into a boys room.  This family is expecting a new baby in October and needs to move bedrooms around.  These girls are moving to another room so two boys can now share this room (lots of juggling going on here).
We love this wall color so much in this room that we are going to try and work with it and make it boy'ish.

Here it is now...

The new room will have the same layout with the two twin beds and some sort of tall chest between them.  We are going to try a tall chest with two large back pillows and see if we can either forgo the headboards or maybe just make a low headboard ourselves.

The plan...

I found 2 of these pillows at Homegoods and am creating the room around these colors.

The large back pillows will be out of this fabric

This rust colored rug is from West Elm and I am hoping it will work great under the beds.

The tall chest and dresser are going to be in a dark espresso and will really change the feel of the room.

I'm excited to watch this room transform.
