DIY Holiday Centerpiece ideas

I have been thinking about my how I can spruce up my holiday decor this season and plan on only adding free or inexpensive decorations.  I have been searching for ideas on something interesting for the table centerpiece and some of these ideas caught my eye.

I want a mixture of candles and branches

Pick up branches from a local florist or from your yard and arrange in vases.  Be sure to use gravel to hold the branches in place.

Spray paint a large branch for something different.

Simply cut holes into a log and add candles.  This would work with so many table settings for the holidays

I'm looking forward to creating something like this for my Christmas Eve table.  It's going to be here before I know it!

INTERIOR DESIGN IDEAS: ADDING WINDOW CASING

The great part about design is that sometimes simple details can make a huge impact.  One element that often gets overlooked is "dressing" up your windows.  Adding window treatments is definitely a great way to do this but sometimes just the addition of window casings is all you need to give the polished look you are seeking.

Adding window casing is an inexpesive (relatively) and can be done on your own (if you own a miter saw) or by hiring a handy man.

Here are some pictures showcasing the impact of window casings.

The casing provides a stunning detail in this kitchen and provides a clean edge to run the backsplash tile into.

I love the way the dark casings frame this soft roman shade

We are in the process of adding casings to our windows.  Most of them are finished we just haven't painted them yet.  It only took a few hours and has made a big difference!

GUEST POST: JOANNA with DESIGN SHUFFLE

Hi there! My name is Joanna and I’m a writer for Design Shuffle, a terrific online portal which enables interior designers to showcase their work. I spend my days finding the most beautiful home décor images and writing about them. So I’m sure you can see why I love my job. Today, I bring you eight bright and beautiful interior designs to enjoy.

Whether it is a sensual red that makes us feel passionate or a cheery yellow that makes us happy, bright hues engage us emotionally. When used in our homes, bright hues can have a profound effect on our daily mood. Take a look at these brightly hued rooms and see if they don’t make you feel joyful.

Bright Living Room Designs

Pink and red with a touch of yellow make this living room feel vibrant and lively. The red and white striped chair is reminiscent of a peppermint candy. Yum.

Bright Living Room Designs

A cool palette of soft gray is enlivened by the addition of crisp yellow and purple. While this is a palette we don’t often see, it makes us smile nonetheless.

Bright Living Room Designs

Here is another room with accents of cheery yellow and this room gets a pop of color with the turquoise club chairs.

Bright Living Room Designs

This room says it all—wow! The owner of this apartment is fearless with their use of color. We seldom see living room designs awash in such brilliant pink.

Bright Living Room Designs

A touch of animal prints, a hide rug and an antler light fixture give this room an exotic feel while promoting a sense of happiness through the use of bold color.

Bright Living Room Designs

A white room gets its colorful nature through touches of color on an accent wall and accessories.

Bright Living Room Designs

This room wows with bright turquoise throughout. The pixilated rug brings a rainbow of colors to the otherwise “blue” room.

Bright Living Room Designs

Purple dominates this traditional interior design with a mint green accent wall above the mantel. Books bring additional bright color to the room. These bright colors would even look great for any bedroom design.
